How We Operate
The Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra began its operation in 1932 as a semi-professional orchestra with the goal of providing a performance venue for struggling musicians during the height of the Great Depression. By the end of that decade, it had become community orchestra serving the needs of local amateur musicians and the classical music loving public. It has continued in that vein with weekly rehearsals, providing three or more concerts per year. Adjusting to changing demographics and busier lives, we have changed the way in which we prepare for our concerts.
Moving Forward
Our current approach seeks to satisfy our two primary player constituencies:
-
those who desire and function best with weekly rehearsals, and
-
those who may possess a higher level of playing skill, interested in performing at this level, but with limited time available for group rehearsal.
To serve both of these groups and any in between, we offer the following as our approach to each concert:
-
1st meeting
-
read-through of music for the concert
-
-
Intermediate rehearsals
-
regular, weekly rehearsals, parsing the music and building an interpretive approach
-
some scheduled sectional rehearsals
-
-
The Final Three
-
-
These are and the two Wednesdays prior to the concert and the Rehearsal Call at 1:00 p.m. the day of the concert. Attendance at ALL THREE of these rehearsals is required in order to particpate in the performance.
-
Full rehearsals benefit the entire group, and although all are encouraged to attend as many rehearsals as possible, we believe that this approach can yield outstanding results
